More about Monet: Claude Monet is one of the most famous French painters and the founder of French impressionist painting. Born in 1840 in Paris, he lived in Le Havre and then in the South of France, and died in 1926 in Giverny. In 1872, he painted Impression, Sunrise (Impression, soleil levant) depicting a Le Havre port landscape. That wonderful painting was on display at the first Impressionist exhibition in 1874 and is now displayed in the Musee Marmottan in Paris.
